running in the clouds
Monday, October 29th, 2007So the weather here can be pretty nuts. I got out for a pretty good run this morning, and the air was just right. Little cool, and lots of fog. That made it kind of interesting as I would head up Radar Hill; started to feel a little like I was headed up into the mountains, because the hill would just keep going, and the fog looked like clouds. And after a couple laps to the top, it seemed like the sun was burning through the fog, and that it was going to be a nice day. However, as I stepped out of the latrine after my shower, it was like the sky had just opened up, and it was absolutely pouring. Then of course, the sun actually did come out later on. If nothing else, it keeps it interesting!
And for anyone that enjoys some fast-paced music while they’re working out, let me recommend the Podrunner podcast. It’s been a great companion for days like today when I’m pushing myself. You can subscribe for free on iTunes. And it sounds like DJ Steveboy just got some sponsorship, so it might see some changes.
we had our change of command with our counterparts today, so I guess that puts us officially in the driver’s seat. It seems like a deployment like this is just a series of gates we’re trying to make it through. There’s the big ones, movement to Atterbury, complete mobilization checklist, movement to Germany, complete training, movement to Kosovo, conduct relief-in-place…hopefully it won’t be long before we’re assisting our replacements with their relief-in-place, and we’ll be going through the major muscle movements of getting everyone and all our gear back to the States. And there’s all the little ones that lead up to the big ones, including all the bits and pieces of a rip/toa process. I find it a good way to mark our progress so far. Seems like we’ve been at this a long time to only just now be taking charge here, but I guess that’s how it goes.
But if that weren’t enough, there’s plenty else to keep a person busy here. I finally took most of a day off yesterday, and even went to a movie. Movies are free here, and the theater isn’t too bad. We even get to see first-run movies. But sometimes, we get what we pay for! I saw Death Sentence last night, and even though it worked just fine to kill a couple hours, I wouldn’t urge anyone to rush out and see it.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Keep the comments coming; I truly enjoy them.
