sun, no wait sleet, no wait partly cloudy, er uh rain?
Monday, November 5th, 2007I thought Minnesota weather could be unpredictable, but today was definitely interesting. This morning was warm, sun was shining, and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. Needless to say, I was a little surprised to look out the window and see the sleet coming down practically sideways. Not much later, it was gone, and it seemed like the sun was coming out again…go figger.
Anyway, been meaning to get some more stuff on the post. Halloween came and went, but there wasn’t much trick-or-treating going on around here. I did get some cool candy in the mail, and I’m trying really hard not to eat it all at once! There was even a costume party on Halloween night, but I’m a little confused how anyone knew to bring costumes? That sure wasn’t on my packing list!! There was even some pumpkin-carving going on, but I was still working, so I didn’t get a chance to participate.
The TAG from MN came to visit a few days ago, so that was pretty cool. Everyone gets a little uptight when the boss comes around, but its always a pleasure to have the opportunity to brief him. He even had a town hall chat with the soldiers, but I can’t say how that went since I was, you guessed it, still working.
Anyway, I am trying to find more time for fun stuff. We are getting settled in to our new rooms, and soon I will have my Xbox hooked up. Now if I can just talk my roommate into springing for the surround sound system… We’ll see I guess!
So last night we even grilled dinner. They have charcoal at the px, and we inherited a grill from our predecessors, so we took the opportunity to fire up some burgers and kebabs. Actually tasted pretty good! It was kinda fun suspending reality for a little while, until Ludwig walked up and said ‘you know what weekend it is back home?’ (blank stares) ‘deer opener!’ Somehow, it hadn’t even occurred to me that we were missing it until he pointed it out, but I guess standing around the fire with beer in hand (alcohol-free of course!) seemed awfully reminiscent of home. So that made it a little melancholy and bittersweet at the same time. But it was still cool.
Time for me to rack out. More later!
